Jefferson Beach
Jefferson Beach is a secluded beach at the end of Jefferson Drive. It is the perfect place for a quiet retreat. Listening to the reeds and the lapping waves. Beach goers are placed into a state of meditative bliss. Watching birds fly over head an amateur ornithologist can identify hundreds of species of birds in our wetlands. Mastic Beach is one of the best places in the New York metro area for bird watching. Its diverse habitats support a great variety of birds throughout the year, and it is a prime “rest stop” for birds on migration. Over 300 species of birds have been recorded on this thin strip of land, around 1/3 of all the birds found in North America!
Kayakers on the Long Island Sea Kayak Trail find this the perfect stretch of land for a picnic respite. This modestly-sized beach has a more intimate atmosphere than Long Island's larger stretches of sand. You can work on your tan, enjoy a swim, or explore the flats, which features a nature lovers wetlands paradise, where the flora and fauna in the "nursery of the sea" is teaming with activity. |
