The MBPOA holds a variety of events, and participates in other community events, throughout the year. Below is a sampling of what social events we have for our enjoyment. Please check the calendar for upcoming dates!
General Meetings are open to the membership on the first Thursday of each month (unless there is holiday interference) at 7:30pm. Guest speakers from our community will present on different subjects that relate to our membership. Dates for meetings will be put in the newsletter and on the calendar. Dates and times are subject to change at any time, please check the calendar for details. Our membership is a collective voice in our community!
Friday Night Get Together
Our Clubhouse bar is open to members and guests on Friday evenings from 5:30pm till whenever. So far, the evenings have been enjoyable and new friendships established. Board games are available for those who ask. Bring your own darts. Stop by, play a game, have a drink and make new friends!
We have scheduled Double J.J. for the third Friday of each month at 7:30PM. Coffee and cake are included, and a cash bar is available. So come on down and “kick-it up” on the dance floor. Entry is $8 per person ($6 for members).
Music Night Cafe and Open Mic Night at the Clubhouse
On occasion we have a Friday Night Music Cafe at the clubhouse where local musicians perform and eclectic mix of modern music for your enjoyment. Come meet your neighbors for socializing, cocktails, snacks and music. Free to members. $3 for non-members.
Nite at the Races
Every March and October we hold Nite at the Races at the clubhouse to help us fundraise for our other events. We show films of past horse races while having dinner. Admission is $20 per person which included dinner and all the beer, wine and soda you can drink!
The MBPOA has an open house and provides hot dogs and drinks for all who participate in the Tri-Hamlet Renaissance Day.
We hold a tag sale, rain or shine, at the Clubhouse on our grounds. An opportunity to rid your home of clutter or sell your crafts and art by purchasing a spot. You just set up your stuff and keep all your profits! If you aren't selling, come down and see what is available; find a unique gift for a teacher, graduate or wedding, refurnish your home, get ready for a new addition by reclaiming a crib or stroller, find a piece of accent jewelry from an artist... There is bound to be something for everyone!
The annual Snapper Derby for children ages 5–12 is held in August at Marina 1. The Snapper Derby is sponsored by the MBPOA and the Mastic Beach Yacht Club. Anglers are asked to bring their own pole (preferably a snapper pole) and are not permitted to use a reel. Parents can bait hooks, but cannot fish. Bait will be provided. Trophies and prizes will be awarded, and hot dogs and soda will be served after each session at the Yacht Club. It’s a fun day for the kids, and for parents as well.
Blue Claw Crab Festival
We hold the Festival in August at Marina 1. Enjoy fresh steamed shrimp, crabs, crab-cakes, clams on the half shell, beer, wine and soda. There will be music and dance performances presented on the show mobile. Children’s activities like face-painting and sand art. A large selection of food vendors and arts and crafts items will be on hand. Free admission to all!
Kids Halloween Party
At the clubhouse we have a party for all community children up to age the age of 12. Candy, cookies drinks and treats, as well as a mummy wrap game, spooky stories, music, face painting, and paint your own pumpkin. Bring the kids and enjoy an afternoon of SPOOKtackular fun the Friday before Halloween! Each child must be accompanied by an adult.
Our creative members have put together a fantastic float for the Chamber of Commerce Holiday parade that takes place on Montauk Highway every December. Any member wishing to march in the parade or help with the float decorations is welcome to do so.
Member Holiday Party
The December/Christmas Party Meeting is brief with Santa Claus as guest speaker. The hall is beautifully decorated by many of the members. Much to the surprise and delight of the children, Santa Claus calls them up one by one to receive their gift (provided by parents). Afterwards, a member cooked pot luck buffet is served. Hot chocolate, coffee and treats are served to complete the magical evening.
We attempt to make at least two trips per year. Where we go: the Sands, Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods, A Roll of the Dice, but always a great time. Join us.
The past two years have been dinner comedy shows, but you never know what the activity committee will come up with. What you can count on is that there will always be an October event.
